Most calls into a dispatch center will come from people using a standard telephone to verbally report an emergency, but in some cases a telecommunicator will only hear tones instead of words. It may be because the caller is using a TTY - or test telephone - because he or she is unable to speak. Federal mandates and your desire to help people in needs makes it critical for you to know how to properly answer these calls. This video explains some of the different devices used, and how to properly communicate with TTY users in need of emergency help.
