Documentation 101 - If It Wasn’t Written, It Wasn’t Done.

Session description:
This presentation will cover the importance of good narrative writing, including when and how to document, common errors in documentation, and utilization of proper grammar and spelling.

Specifically, the importance of documentation to the responder and the use of narratives in court proceedings. Students will learn how to write an objective narrative without the use of slang and subjective information. Information on when to document, with specific information on common calls for service, such as 9-1-1 hang-ups, in-progress events, cancelled calls, and others will be provided.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the importance of narrative documentation when receiving calls for service
2. Identify when and how to document.
3. Utilize proper grammar and spelling.
