Description:
Line and Antenna Sweep (LAS) is a comprehensive two-day, hands-on course that will give you all of the necessary knowledge in order to test and evaluate RF signals that originate at the output of a radio transmitter and eventually are propagated to a receiver. The class begins with basic theory of antennas and transmission lines and concludes with hands-on applications of everyday problems found in the field. Designed to include beginners as well as senior level technicians and engineers, this course goes beyond traditional line sweep which only shows a small snippet of antenna performance. We encourage you to bring your own line sweep tool.

This course is designed to comply with the ELECTRONICS TECHNICIANS ASSOCIATION (ETA), and exceed COMT, and the APCO / ANSI training standards. This class is taught with the participants using state-of-the-art test equipment. This course covers all of the areas that today’s land mobile radio communications technician / engineer in the public safety or business / commercial communications field will encounter.

Discussions will include: Antenna types, mounting techniques, propagation, gain and losses, decibels, pattern distortions, SWR, return loss, distance-to-fault, range, impedance matching, bandwidth, efficiency, power levels, static and dynamic down tilt, selecting the correct components for optimal results, beamwidth, polarization, mixed use towers, transmission line selection, antenna diversity, splitters, couplers, taps and lightning protection.

Hands-on exercises will include:
Testing fundamentals, reflectometers, RF wattmeters, calibration, determining problems, distance-to-fault measurements, system sweeps, FDR operation and troubleshooting.
