Sirius XM is the same company that sends 160 channels of radio to your car and your streaming devices. Their core radio service is transmitted by a fleet of satellites located over the United States. Sirius XM is rolling out a system that will allow first responders, emergency service providers and other public safety entities to use capacity on some of those same satellites – at no cost – to send broadcast audio messages of their own choosing to fixed locations that have specialized receivers and antennas provided by Sirius XM. The system is designed to send the same audio content over broad areas – national, regional or state – rather than to individual communities. Sirius XM is looking for public safety entities to receive the initial service, in the hope that it can be expanded with greater capabilities for APCO members.

This webinar will provide an overview of the Sirius XM spectrum service and will answer the following questions:
  • What can emergency communications centers (ECCs) use this service for?
  • Who’s already using this service?
  • Are there any technical limitations?
  • How do I sign up for this service?

Speakers:
  • James Blitz, Senior Vice President, Regulatory Counsel, Sirius XM
  • Bridget Neville, Senior Vice President & GM, Signal Distribution Engineering, Sirius XM
  • Crystal Lawrence, Director of ECC Engagement, APCO International
