Although there is no pre-requisite for the course, it is recommended that registrants for this class have successfully completed a 40-hour formal basic instructor-led telecommunicator training program.
Please be advised that effective April 1, 2023, APCO will introduce the updated Fire Service Communications (FSC) 3rd Edition course. Any student who holds a current FSC 2nd Edition certificate will be required to complete the FSC 3rd Edition Update course before recertifying. The FC 3rd Edition Update course will be provided at no cost to current FSC 2nd Edition students April 1, 2023 through March 1, 2024. This does not apply to Fire Service Communications 2nd Edition Canada (FSCC).

APCO certified FSCs must provide proof every two years of 24 hours (12 hours per certification year) of Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE). Complete information on the recertification process is provided at the conclusion of the Fire Service Communications, 2nd Ed., Version 1 course. Recertification requires ongoing continuing education.
