Prerequisite: Students must have a previous edition of an APCO 40 hour course.
The APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, 7th Edition
(Canada Version) update course is designed to bring anyone who has completed
APCO’s Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, 6th Edition, Canada (PST1, 6th
Ed. Canada) current with the 7th Edition release. This course is also designed for anybody who
has 40 hours of APCO basic telecommunicator training that predates PST1-Sixth
Ed. Canada.
New Topics include,
but are not limited to:
- 9-1-1 Disaster Preparedness in
the PSAP
- Quality Assurance/Quality
Improvement programs
- Guidecards, the design and use in
the PSAP
- NextGen and other Emerging
Technologies (Module 5 – all new!)
- Record Management Systems
- Managing specialty/high-risk
calls
- The need for continuing education
and professional development
In addition to the new topics,
existing sections have been extensively rewritten, revised and updated, such as
Mod. 13 – Liability and Mod. 14 Preparing for Your New Career.
Students will independently review the updates to the
Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, 7th Edition (Canada Version) course and
complete an exam based on the new material. The student must score 80% on the
exam. Each student will receive 2 CDE's with successful completion of this
course.
Prerequisites:
Students must have been certified in APCO’s Public
Safety Telecommunicator 1, 6th Edition (Canada) or 40 hours of APCO basic
telecommunicator training that predates PST1-Sixth Ed. Canada.
Recertification Requirements:
APCO Institute certified Public Safety Telecommunicators are required to
recertify every two years. Complete information on the recertification process
is provided at the conclusion of the Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 Canada,
Seventh Edition update course. Recertification requires ongoing continuing
education.

Duration:
Online (web): 3 weeks
Students will work at their own pace. The class will
remain open for 3 weeks. Students should anticipate two (2) hours of commitment
to complete this update. Certificates will be issued once class had ended and
been closed out.
